Did you know learning to read begins long before a child starts Kindergarten?
Reading aloud to children ages 0 to 5 helps them build the vocabulary and language skills they will need once they enter school. Sharing books with your children is a great way to build those skills, develop a love of reading, and spend quality time with your child.
Cromaine's 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is a fun and free way to start your child on the path to become a successful reader.
How Does It Work?
Pick up a Reading Log from the Library's 2nd floor Youth Desk.
Fill in a circle for each book you read with your child.
Record a favorite book as many times as it is read. Repetition is key to learning.
Every book counts, including books read to your child by grandparents, siblings, and in Storytime! For every 100 books read, visit the Library to receive a stamp in your reading log.
After 500 books are read, visit the Library to receive a small prize and your next reading log.
After 1,000 books are read, visit the Library to receive a special Cromaine bag.
Plus, look for special events throughout the year just for 1,000 Books participants and quarterly surprises.
This program is made possible by a generous donation from the Friends of the Cromaine Library.
